About Us
Welcome to Cocoon! I'm Samuel - an obsessive knitter and hand dyer. I live in a sleepy little village in Doncaster, South Yorkshire with my partner of 18 years, Mark and our two dogs Fig and Pepper.
Like many others I was taught to knit by my Nannan when I was a small child, we would spend hours knitting small blankets and scarves for my toys. I came back to knitting when I was in my late teens and moved on to making fingerless gloves, hats and scarves (for humans this time) later I opened a hair salon and my working life took over and over time my needles were abandoned.
After a shoulder injury which required surgery stopped me in my tracks, I scaled back my working life and took a lot of time back. I threw myself back into knitting and crocheting, this time exploring all of the areas I had not felt skilled enough to explore, joined an incredible knitting group at my friends shop and took a workshop in hand dyeing yarn.
I was HOOKED.
It started tiny, just dyeing the odd skein of yarn here and there then gradually the batches got bigger, people were making requests and so Cocoon was born.
Even though Cocoon is in its infancy I've had an incredibly warm welcome to the industry by crafters and other hand dyers from far and wide, I attended my first yarn festival as a vendor with my friend Lianne from the wool den in Doncaster and have a handful more booked for the future.
Outside of knitting, dyeing yarn and hairdressing I'm also an open water swimmer, flautist and gamer. I'm also very chatty and love to meet new people, so feel free to get in touch with me and show me the projects you're working on, I love to see what everyone is creating.
Thankyou for taking the time to check out my website and browse through my yarn, I can't wait to see where this journey takes me, the support I've had so far has been incredible and it means the world to have so many people cheering for me.
Samuel x
